Explore Dujiangyan Panda Base (China Conservation & Research Center branch) with 80% fewer crowds than Chengdu’s main facility. Walk bamboo-canopied trails (8:30-10:30 AM optimal viewing) to observe rescued giant pandas breakfasting on fresh shoots. Watch for endangered red pandas in ancient cypress trees – their rust-colored fur contrasting with monochrome giants below.
Afternoon – Engineering Legacy
Visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System (UNESCO World Heritage since 2000), the 2,280-year-old hydraulic marvel that still protects 668,700 hectares of farmland. Your guide will demonstrate how Governor Li Bing’s revolutionary “divide-sand channel” design harnesses Min River currents without dams.
